Today is August 26th, the 238th day of the year. It’s the 127th day of the year in the Gregorian calendar.

  • We begin back in 1768, when Captain James Cook set sail from England aboard HMS Endeavour on his first voyage of discovery.

  • Moving to 1791, inventor John Fitch was granted a United States patent for the steamboat.

  • Fast forward to 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was officially certified, granting women the right to vote.
  • And in 1998, the maiden flight of the Boeing Delta III rocket ended in disaster 75 seconds after liftoff, destroying the Galaxy X communications satellite.
