- It was on this date in 1810, that The newspaper Gazeta de Buenos Ayres was first published in Argentina
- That same date in 1862, The United States and the United Kingdom agreed in the Lyons-Seward Treaty to suppress the African slave trade
- Also today in 1906, Cunard Line’s RMS Lusitania was launched from the John Brown Shipyard, Glasgow (Clydebank), Scotland
- It was 85 years ago today, that The Douglas DC-4E made its first test flight
- It was also this date in 1946 that The United Kingdom’s BBC returned to broadcasting its television service, which has been off air for seven years because of World War II
- It was 68 years ago today that Lux Radio Theatre signed off the air permanently. The show launched in New York in 1934, and featured radio adaptations of Broadway shows and popular films
- That same date in 1975, Sony launched Betamax, the first videocassette recorder format.
- 46 years ago today, Five hundred million people watched the high day of the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II begin on television
- June 7, 1982, Priscilla Presley opened Graceland to the public; the bathroom where Elvis Presley died five years earlier was kept off-limits
