- It was on this date in 1924, that Edwin Hubble’s discovery, that the Andromeda “nebula” is actually another island galaxy far outside our own Milky Way, was first published in The New York Times.
- It was also this date in 1963 that The BBC broadcasts An Unearthly Child (starring William Hartnell), the first episode of the first story from the first series of Doctor Who, which is now the world’s longest running science fiction drama.
- On November 23, 1972, The Soviet Union made its final attempt at launching the N1 rocket.
- The Geneva Frequency Plan of 1975 went into effect, realigning many of Europe’s longwave and mediumwave broadcasting frequencies. on this date in 1978
- 31 years ago today, Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury announced in a statement that he was HIV-positive. He died the following day.
- It was 30 years ago today, that The first smartphone, the IBM Simon, was introduced at COMDEX in Las Vegas, Nevada
- It was on this date in 2001, that The Convention on Cybercrime was signed in Budapest, Hungary
- Also on November 23, 2015, Blue Origin’s New Shepard space vehicle became the first rocket to successfully fly to space and then return to Earth for a controlled, vertical landing.
