• March 28, 1802, Heinrich Wilhelm Matthäus Olbers discovers 2 Pallas, the second asteroid ever to be discovered.
• It was 108 years ago today, that Henri Fabre becomes the first person to fly a seaplane, the Fabre Hydravion, after taking off from a water runway near Martigues, France.
• On March 28, 1933, The Imperial Airways biplane City of Liverpool is believed to be the first airliner lost to sabotage when a passenger sets a fire on board.
• Also on March 28, 1979, A coolant leak at the Three Mile Island’s Unit 2 nuclear reactor outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania leads to the core overheating and a partial meltdown.
• It was 28 years ago today, that United States President George H. W. Bush posthumously awards Jesse Owens the Congressional Gold Medal.

• American physicist and academic, Nobel Prize laureate, Jerome Isaac Friedman, born on this date in 1930.
• Dutch physicist and astronaut, Wubbo Ockels was born 72 years ago today.
• Also born on that same date in 1986, American singer-songwriter, dancer, producer, and actress, Lady Gaga.
