- The Baseball Hall of Fame opens in Cooperstown, New York that very same day.
- 1942 – Anne Frank receives a diary for her thirteenth birthday.
- Venera 4 is launched on June 12, 1967. It will become the first space probe to enter another planet’s atmosphere and successfully return data.
- 35 years ago today, David Berkowitz, the “Son of Sam” killer in New York City, is sentenced to 365 years in prison for six killings.
- It was June 12, 1979 when Bryan Allen wins the second Kremer prize for a man powered flight across the English Channel in the Gossamer Albatross.
- 26 years ago today at the Brandenburg Gate U.S. President Ronald Reagan publicly challenges Mikhail Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall.
