A thank you years later…

Chuck,

You probably don’t remember me, but my name is Garrett Meiers.  I was a user on the Enterprise Data Systems Inc. BBS many, many, moons ago.

I’ve been working professionally with UNIX for about 17 years now.   It all started when I was using your BBS and another user showed me how to get to the shell via VI.   I had never seen UNIX before, but since that moment, I was hooked.    I spent the rest of my time as a youth, and well into adulthood, with my trustworthy Laser 128 and 300 baud modem turned into a dumb-terminal, learning everything I could about UNIX.   My first professional “job” included working with UNIX, and it was all UNIX from there on!

It dawned on me one day, that if it wasn’t for you starting EDSI, I probably never would have been introduced to UNIX.   Or, if I had been, it would have been much later, and probably wouldn’t have made such a big influence on my interests and career path.   So, I wanted to send you a big “Thank you”.   I really appreciate your efforts in providing EDSI back in the day.

It looks like you are still in the area.  I would love to treat you to lunch sometime, as a small token of my not-so-small appreciation.
