Sony retires the cassette Walkman

Wow…I saw this and my immediate reaction was, “They still sell the cassette Walkman?”. Apparently they do/did.

After retiring the floppy disk in March, Sony has halted the manufacture and distribution of another now-obsolete technology: the cassette Walkman, the first low-cost, portable music player. The final batch was shipped to Japanese retailers in April, according to IT Media. Once these units are sold, new cassette Walkmans will no longer be available through the manufacturer

One Response to Sony retires the cassette Walkman

  1. Bill from Albuquerque says:

I had thought they stopped making them at least 5 years ago when they started bringing out mp3 players to compete with the primitive technology out of Cupertino. I wonder how much longer it will be before you can no longer get blank CD’s and DVD’s to make backups of important files in case you need them and can’t get online to restore from your backup in the cloud say after a small category 5 hurricane for example or a nice blizzard takes the power grid and cell towers out.
