  • It was on this date in 1759 that the British Museum opens.
  • That same date in 1844, University of Notre Dame receives its charter from the state of Indiana.
  • The Coca-Cola Company, then known as the Pemberton Medicine Company, is incorporated in Atlanta, Georgia today in 1889.
  • January 15, 1919 – A large molasses tank in Boston, Massachusetts, bursts and a wave of molasses rushes through the streets, killing 21 people and injuring 150 others, known as the Boston Molasses Disaster.
  • Today in 1943 – The world’s largest office building, The Pentagon, is dedicated in Arlington, Virginia.
  • The Soviet Union launches Soyuz 5 on this date 45 years ago.
  • Wikipedia, a free Wiki content encyclopedia, turns 13 today.
  • and 9 years ago, ESA’s SMART-1 lunar orbiter discovers elements such as calcium, aluminum, silicon, iron, and other surface elements on the moon.

  • Actor Lloyd Bridges would have been 101 today.
  • and finally cryptographer and author Bruce Schneier turns 51

And don’t forget Friday January 17th is Ben Franklin Day.
