- The first regularly scheduled Orient Express departs Paris started on June 5, 1883.
- That same date in 1956 – Elvis Presley introduces his new single, “Hound Dog”, on The Milton Berle Show, scandalizing the audience with his suggestive hip movements.
- DSV Alvin is commissioned 49 years ago today.
- It was June 5, 1976 that saw the collapse of the Teton Dam in Idaho, in the United States.
- The Apple II, one of the first personal computers, goes on sale today in 1977
- And in 1995 – The Bose-Einstein condensate is first created.
