  • It was on this date in 1863 in Romania, that the mountain railway from Anina to Oravita is used for the first time.
  • The Wright brothers’ first attempt to launch the Wright Flyer at Kitty Hawk, NC happened today in 1903
  • 55  years ago today in 1955, Jens Olsen’s World Clock is started by Danish  King Frederick IX and Jens Olsen’s youngest grandchild Birgit.
  • Gemini  6A, crewed by Wally Schirra and Thomas Stafford, is launched from Cape  Kennedy, Florida today in 1965. Four orbits later, it achieves the first  space rendezvous, with Gemini 7.
  • Today in the year 2000, the 3rd reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is shut down.
  • That same date five years later, The F-22 Raptor was introduced into US Air Force active service.
  • First flight of the F-35 Lightning II was made today in 2006
  • Staying  with the airplane theme, Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner makes its maiden  flight from Seattle, Washington on this date in 2009.
